Discover the link between gum and heart disease bacteria
Researchers found doctors that people with more bacteria in their mouths more susceptible to heart disease.
The results of the study showed that 657 persons were not subjected to strokes or heart attacks, those who increased their bacteria causing periodontal disease exacerbation with the thickness of the carotid arteries, which is a strong indicator of a clogged blood vessel.
He said a team of researchers from Colombia University in New York that periodontal bacteria can spread into the blood stream. And these bacteria stimulate the immune system causing inflammation resulting in a blockage in the arteries.
The researchers used ultrasound to measure the thickness of the carotid artery that runs from the heart to the brain, and make sure they only measure the levels of bacteria associated with periodontal disease and heart disease.
Gum disease specialist, said Dr. Panos bababano, who participated in the study, despite the discovery of more than 600 species of bacteria inhabit the mouth, each person carries different proportions. Researchers need to know comes before the other bacteria or heart disease.
Dr. Ralph Sacco that study participants will be screened in less than three years "and then can better assess the development of atherosclerosis and hope of setting a time frame for the incidence of these diseases
